Flames Midget A Wildcat Tournament Champions!
The Crawford Flames Midget A Minor team recently won the North Pittsburgh Wildcats Winter Shootout tournament. During the pool play, the Flames first beat the Arctic Foxes 6-1, tied Butler Valley 2-2, and tied the Amateur Pens 5-5. The Flames qualified for the finals by virtue of the fourth-level tie breaker (goal differential) over the Amateur Pens.
In the finals, the Flames came back late from a 2-1 deficit to score a six on three power play goal by Kody Trace with the goal tender pulled and under one minute to play. Early in the overtime, Flames goaltender Derek Shaffer made the Flames version of "the save" diving across the crease to glove a rebound shot towards an open side of the net. This was followed by the tournament-winning power play goal by Nathan Miller. The team played well as a team overcoming injuries to important players to finish with the tournament victory.
